The Porto Montenegro Yacht Club hosted the Grand Finals of the European Match Race Tour 2018 dual sailing championship, which took place in Tivat from 14-16 September. The tour, which takes its course across Europe and into the Adriatic, gives young sailors an opportunity to enter the dual sailing circuit and train in the match race discipline, with the aim of climbing world rankings in the sport.
The tour gives sailors a chance to rotate courses and practice racing as much as possible. For the second year in a row now, we award the best crews at the Grand Finals and we are delighted to be bringing the tour to Porto Montenegro this year, says Neven Baran, Chief Umpire and co-organiser of the European Match Race Tour.
As Vice President of the Porto Montenegro Yacht Club and Marina Director at Porto Montenegro, Tony Browne commented, There’s some very strong competition amongst the six teams and we expect to see some really good on water action. We couldn’t be happier to be hosting this event and look forward to continued cooperation with the organisers of the European Match Race Tour.
The Boka Bay served as an excellent sailing ground for the regatta, providing ideal wind conditions and competitive on-water action. Organisers see Montenegro firmly on the roadmap for future tours, adding to the appeal of this attractive year-round destination.
